Deborah McAllister
“Free range artist” describes Deborah McAllister’s habit of painting outdoors wherever she finds herself. She graduated from Colorado Institute of Art, then worked in commercial art, along with learning to paint and falling in love with plein air painting in oil. Deborah lived in Denver for many years with her family and was a board member of Plein Air Artists Colorado for several years. In 2019 with their children raised, Deborah and Tom sold their house in Denver to live and travel in an RV. They eventually settled in Cottonwood, AZ, which allows easy access to some of America’s most dramatic landscapes such as Grand Canyon and Sedona red rocks. They still enjoy traveling for long periods and get to Colorado often. Deborah has participated in plein air events all over the U.S. and internationally.
Deborah is inspired by the beauty of God’s creation, effects of light, and daily walks in nature.
