Tennyson Sculpture Park & Gardens

Located at 475 Lewis St, Pagosa Springs, Colorado, the Tennyson Sculpture Park has provided a beautiful and unique outdoor setting for showcasing contemporary sculpture since opening in 2023. This new “public treasure” annually draws thousands of visitors from around the U.S. Currently there are ten pieces of sculpture on permanent display by local, regional and world-renowned artists. There is no admission fee to visit the park and it is open nine months out of the year, closed in the winter months. Come and enjoy its beauty and splendor along with seasonal events like a Farmer’s Market, various Music Festivals, and the Pagosa Art Council’s Festival of the Arts featuring over 40 local and regional fine artists and sculptors.

The San Juan cutthroat trout was a fish long thought to be extinct. In 1874 Charles Arens collected two cutthroat trout in Pagosa Springs, blocks away from this sculpture along the San Juan river. 150 years later, these two fish were discovered in the Smithsonian museum. Using their DNA in 2018, fish biologists located several small, rare populations, which unraveled the DNA mystery, proving Colorado still has native San Juan cutthroat. Mike Tennyson’s love for fishing commemorates the sculptural celebration of an extinction that was averted.

“This park, the gardens, and the sculptures within are a dedication to the memory of all the friends and family members lost with a special dedication to my husband, Michael Duane Tennyson (1952-2017). Mike loved Pagosa Springs and it was always his dream to retire here. His dream did not come true but his memory will live on forever in Pagosa Springs through this park. In loving dedication by his wife Evelyn, it is hoped that you will enjoy the park, reflect on loved ones lost and that the sounds in the winds lift your heart and reach those memories that touch your soul.”
